Welcome to our Resource Centre.....

Sunnybank SHS has an outstanding resourced library, containing 3 computer lab areas where students can easily locate books and resources using the online catalog system. In addition to the lab areas, the library has a conventional book system and extensive reference library which complements the online Encarta library. Students also have access to two Library annexes for normal classes or projector/laptop requirements for in-class presentations. This can all be enjoyed in a fully ducted temperature controlled environment throughout the whole school year.

Library - Report

Term Three 2008 has been a hive of activity by our students who have engaged in a wide range of research activities. The Year 12 Modern History students have been considering the challenges confronting our Modern Society in the 21st Century.  As well, as part of the Year 12 English course, students have also undertaken a Marginalized Voices unit for English.  While our year 11 students have been considering what the Future holds for our Society in the Visions of the Future English Unit, by researching such topics as cloning, genetic engineering, in-vitro fertilization and gun control. Our Year Nine’s have also researched the life of a famous person and researched the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing China and Year Eights have looked at the issues concerning the impact of climate change on our Water resources. These are only a small sample of the topics which our students have been researching this Term. Our Library Resources Centre has proactively assisted in this research by providing the book and non-book resources as well as Internet and Intranet access for our students to find the relevant information for the successful completion of these many and varied topics. The Library Resources staff has recognized that the information environment has changed radically in the last twenty years and that the use of technology is instrumental in how young people work, play and learn. Students at our school, through the use of the Internet and Intranet, now have instantaneous access to vast quantities of information using a variety of formats, text types, graphics and multi media.  The Resources Centre has also bought and processed some resources which our students will find very interesting:

Rangers Apprentice Series: This is a thrilling fantasy series consisting of four novels about the adventures of Will and his friends and provides the reader with unstoppable and riveting reading. The series is a true example of the calibre of storytelling which will enchant and engage all lovers of Fantasy. This series is available from the Library Resources Centre now!
Graphic Mysteries Series: Our students can now find out about some of the mysteries which have intrigued man through the generations. The Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, UFO’s, Ghost and Poltergeists, The Bermuda Triangle and Atlantis are all presented in graphic novel format and use modern scientific knowledge to reveal what may be the truth behind the mystery. Our students will find these books a fascinating read!
It’s True Series: Students will be captivated by such titles as: Your Cat Could be a Spy, The Vikings Got Lost, Women Were Warriors, You Eat Poison Everyday, Haunting Happen and Ghosts Get Grumpy, and Squids Suck. This is a very readable series which provides readers with some mysterious and little known facts about some very intriguing and interesting topics. If you read one you will not be able to wait to read all of the books in the series.
All titles are available for you to read in the Library Resources Centre. Happy reading.
